Keto Hamburger Buns
I love a good cheeseburger, but on a low-carb diet what most people do is eat the burger and all the fixings sans the bun. This doesn’t work for me because a burger without the bun just isn’t the same. But, not to worry! A great recipe for keto hamburger buns comes to the rescue.
I got this recipe from the book Keto Breads – Your Guide to Baking Grain-Free, Low-Carb Bread. These low-carb hamburger buns are not difficult to make and they actually taste pretty good. They are light and fluffy giving them a texture that is very much like a traditional hamburger bun.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients 1 1/4 cups almond flour (115 g) 1 tablespoon psyllium husk powder (12 g) 1 teaspoon baking soda (5 g) 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (2.5 g) | Wet Ingredients Three egg whites (90 g) 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (5 mL) 2/3 cup hot water |
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C).
2. In a medium bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients.
3. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg whites and the apple cider vinegar.
4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix with a handheld mixer or a silicone spatula to make a thick batter.
5. Pour in the hot water and mix quickly until the dough has a consistency similar to that of thick oatmeal.
6. Divide the dough into four equally sized balls. Place the dough balls onto a baking sheet with parchment paper. Flatten the dough to a height of approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm). The dough will rise to about 2 1/2 times its height.
7. Bake for 40 to 50 min.
8. Cool on a wire rack.
